Default 1992 Gasket issue

My 1992 FLHS blew a gasket today. not sure the right name for it but it is the one on the right side of the motor on the back "twin" about even with middle of carb, it makes a very loud thumping/blowing sound and I can feel air blowing out. I want to try to fix it myself? do I need any specialty tools to tackle it? Sorry for stupid question/bad description? Thanks for any help..

What you describe sounds like a head gasket. Not a difficult job for an experienced mechanic. As for specialty tools, you need a torque wrench (not exactly a specialty tool) and a factory service manual. Various things need to be torqued in a specific order and to specific torques.

Make sure you warm that evo up real good or they like to blow gaskets. When your rocker boxes are warm is about right.

Yep! Gotta let them warm up! Cometic makes good gaskets and is considered the industry leader in v-twin engine gaskets.

Cometic is the way to go. Cyco is pretty good, too. Either one will sell directly to you.

It is the Head gasket. Somebody else said cometic is the best... Looks like I am going with them.. My buddy (who owns a local cycle shop) is going to reseal the whole engine with all new gaskets and install a andrews cam for me (thinking ev27) and do some carb work (new jets etc.) for $350 if I buy all the parts... good deal??

My sister works for andrews and gets a good disount so I figure while the engine is open why not gain some more power...
