Default R&R Inner Cam Chain Tensioner TC88

When you have cam plate and cams out, can you change the inner cam chain tensioner without pulling the cams and outer bearings out of the plate. I have done allot of reading and am confused. Thanks for your help.

I've never tried it with the cams in place. Seems like it might be challenging to get the spring wound up with the cams & chain in place.

I bet ShovelheadBob could answer this....

Yes it can be done!
I used two pairs of needle nose vise grips. One on the spring and the other on the arm that holds the tensioner out of the way (specialty tool location).

It was a big pain in the buttocks!

Attached is a picture of what it looked like before I pulled it.

If I were in it that far I would change Bearings. Cheap insurance. Getting the inner bearing puller/installer is the expensive part. The outer can be heated to get it outbut considering what you have invested in your bike..............? Just a thought.
