Default 88 to 95" have a few questions about compression

I have a 2004 ultra classic and ride alot of 2 up.The previous owner already had SE204 cams installed. Now im considering doing the 95" kit to freshen it up.I can get a good deal on new jugs, pistons and a new set of heads with just some clean up port work everything is ready to bolt on.The question i have is the pistons are screaming eagle 10:25 to 1 compression and im wondering if i will need compression releases.I have been reading alot and some say yes others say no.I know it also has to do with how thick of a head gasket i use so for discussion purpose lets say they are .040 thick and the heads for arguement sake are 86cc.

So in summary what does everyone think on needing compression releases with a 95" 10:25 compression,SE204 cames with stock heads with clean up porting .040 head gaskets and a power commander usb programmer.I live in michigan and run the highest octane gas already all the time. Thanks for any info

Yes indeed you would be at 202.6 ccp 190 to 180 ccp you could get by without them. With a 0.40 head gasket you would be at 10.25 static comp. 9.65 corrected comp. AT 86CC heads.you woukd be better off going with a flattop se cast pistons 0.30 head gasket and cc and deck the heads for desired comp. for those cams. go to big boyz site and use calc.

Just run a set of cams with later intake close would be the easiest thing to do. What needs to be done depends on what you're looking for from the build. Riding style etc...

I came up with ~196 psi at 1000 feet above MSL, Michigan average. Install compression releases anytime you're over 180 psi., cheap insurance compared to replacing your starter. Ask me how I know, my ccp is 183 psi and the starter was barking at me again today. It's only a matter of time before I remove the heads or the starter and replace it with an All-*****. Maybe both.

Thanks for thoughts and input the bike runs great for just having se204 cams my buddies are all amazed at when I crack the throttle the bike will jump and they really can't pull away from me on there 88" bikes that are stock but aren't dresser's. But I'm not a small guy and would like to gain some more low end power through mid range
