Better performance with reliability

Better performance with reliability
Is there such a thing? I'm tearing into my 05 Softail engine for other reasons and while I'm in there I wouldn't mind putting it back together with any modifications that would improve it's performance, but not at the sake of reliability. If there are such mods that can be done while maintaining the bike reliability I'd really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

RE: Better performance with reliability
Gear Drive cams will accomplish both ~ better performance and no more tensioner shoes to worry about.
Cam selection is another story...
While you're at it, you can have your heads done and get better valve seals at the same time. That's also performance + reliability.
