ORIGINAL: Bikerdoc

If you really want true duals on an FL bike and you are interested primarily in power, Rhinehart Stepped Duals are the only choice.
All other true duals will rob power like you just found out. True duals are for looks or telling stories - not for performace unless you spend the money on Rhineharts.

Not on my bike. I went from Rineheart True Duals to V&H Dresser Duals and RUSH mufflers w/2" baffles. Picked up 5 hp and 3 ft lbs torque. Big gains were where it counts, in the 2000 - 3500 rpm range. I did not have to touch the jets or needle.

On the V&H duals: For less than 4 hp, I'll take the "Looks & less heat on my leg". It's a bagger not a dragger!! [8D]

Cleaning up the stock exh on r/h side would yield you about the same results.

Slipon wise the rhineharts have the 24 or 2500 TQ dip and SEs seem to crap out after 4500rpms.

So...I want to get a bigger sound and more horsepower...I was thinking about going true-dual...but now if I can "get away" with just going to a cheaper slipon with no mods for the ECM I will take it! Thoughts?

As long as slipons arent EPA compliant you probably would be better off if going by the less expensive slipons vs true duals.

How do I know if they are EPA compliant? I walk into the dealer and every aftermarket set of pipes they have on the wall have the big disclaimer "for offroad use only"

Also, what is the best way to "remap" after I install the slipons?

Hds slipons are now EPA compliant unless you can get a hold of older SE units. Some will say no ECM change is needed w/just slipons. These 07s are already too lean to make any good #s.The stage 1 upgrade is junk maybe the newer release will honestly do something.Again remember its all EPA worthy. For best results do a SERT or PC111 along w/improved AC and your bike will feel like a different machine.
