My Christmas may have turned to crap

Without the backing plate neither the stock bolts or the aftermarket bolts felt tight or rough, but with the backing plate both did. Thats how I eventually figured out to turn the bolts at the same time. Both the stock backing plate and the aftermarket plate causes the bolts to slightly bind unless they are tightened together or just a little each time before doing the same to the other.
I was able to look at a manual today and it actually makes reference to removing (or installing) the bolts in equal amounts to avoid the binding I encountered.
I learned my lesson and ordered the manual today. Just goes to show that even the simple stuff may have specific steps that need to be taken to avoid frustration.

I thought the same thing until I tried the factory backing plate. Same results.
As I mentioned, the manual specifically states to back out/install each bolt a small amount then do the other one the same amount. Repeat until the bolts are removed/installed. In addition, when placed back to back the holes in both plates line up quite nicely. By following the procedure in the manual (which I figured out before reading the manual after much cursing), it goes on like a champ.
I just hope others who are thinking about changing their air cleaner assembly have the manual or read this thread to avoid a headache LOL!
