Bore on the 88" and 96" are the same. You wouldn't gain displacement if that's what your after. I believe the pistons are different in the way they attach to the rods. Rods and crank are one assembly, so it would be impossible to swap the 96 rods onto your 88 crank.

The top end won't do anything for you, it is same bore as you have now. If he is building a 103 he will be keeping his crank and bottom and adding a big bore kit (3.85 verses 3.75 stock) to get the 103. Pistons are different, not bore but location of wrist pin because of longer rods.

The 07 96" has an increased stroke to give the engine higher compression and more cubes. It is two different motors. You can easily build a 95, or a 98 out of the TC88, but in order to stroke it you have to pull the whole motor and split the cases. Take a look at this thread. Pilot1996 had a 98" done last year, and I know he loves it.
