Default removing the cat the easy way

A friend of mine showed me the thread about removing the cat on a FLHX where they cut the exhaust in half so I helped him do it but I thought there had to be a faster and easier way....after doing 3 of them here it is.

Leave the exhaust on the bike, remove the heat shield that covers the cat, cut a flap in the pipe with a cut off wheel and pull it open, now you can pry the cat out in one piece....I can do this in less then 45 min.

My 07 FLHT with a 103ci makes 72HP and it would eat up my friends 2011 with a 103ci....after the mod his made 71HP.....we have a dyno...don't be hating LOL

Looks alot easier than what one of my technicians at work "tried" to do with mine!

Great topic, could you comment on the thickness of the pipe and is it stainless? For welding purposes. Thanks.

It is stainless but a regular mig welder works great, I have a tig but the mig was fast and easy.

The metal is about the thickness of the heat shields but .030 wire in the welder works fine.
