Default Cam Kit

Ordering new SG for Feb and want to put a stage kit in it for a little extra endowment.

I went to one dealer and they suggested SE 211 Cam Kit, 06+ FXD, the other suggested SE 255 CAM kit. Both quotes 3.5 hrs of labour.

I am @ 300lbs and my wife @ 140lbs.

I realize this is a vague question still a newbie looking for your experienced opinions.

Thanks in advance

Depends how you ride. 211 is a revving cam and I think on a fully loaded bagger maybe not ideal. The 255 is a bottom end cam so works well when loaded but not if you want to rev out. There are other choices but it's all about choosing a cam that suits both you and the bike.

Sounds like you are planning on some two up riding?? The SE255 is a great torque cam but runs out of steam about 4000rpms; OK for a touring bike, particularly for two and loaded riding. The cams are not much for HP but make lots of TQ early. You can expect mid to high 80H and low 100sTQ. Most of your riding will be between 2500 and 3500 rpms, so the SE255 is a good choice.

The SE211 is more an upper rpm cam; not much in the low end and it comes on mid mid-range and shines above 3500rpm. I doubt that you will be happy with the 211.

I would suggest compression releases for these cams; talk to your dealer. A little more money but will extend battery and starter life and you can avoid any nasty kickbacks on a heat soaked restart. Not a must have but a good idea.

I'll make mention, that the Andrews 26's, are a shoe-in on those 103"/9.6 cr engines.

I agree, and others to consider that work very well with the stock 103" is the HQ500 and Tman 600. All three really need a good exhaust and intake plus a good tune to get the most out of them.

Best breather I have found so far is the HD Heavy Breather and for exhaust depending on the level of loudness, is the Supertrapp Supermeg or the Fatcat Boss.

I am currently running the HQ 500, Supertrapp and Heavy Breather, tuned with TTS with no other mods and am at 98hp, 108tq. Power comes on very early and will pull to the top. Results would be similar with the other two cams.
