The "B" represents balanced cam shafts. This smooths the engine. 2000 was the first year introduced.

The TC88 engine has rubber isolators incorporated into the engine mounts in an effort to cut down on the amount of vibration transferred to the frame. The TC88B engine uses internal counter balancers in the effort smooth out the engine vibration. The TC88 will have more noticeable vibration when running at idle but runs smoother as rpm climbs.

In addition to the above: TC88 is a wet sump; TC88B is a dry sump.
