Default Cutting breather ears off Ness Big Sucker II

So I got the Ness Big Sucker II kit and got hit in the face with the fact that oil can leak straight down from the open filter and all over my bike. I'm thinking of cutting off the breather ears off the backplate and install a breather kit. So the air clreaner assembly is only gonna be held in place by 3 bolts that attach to the intake. Anyone done this before or see any problems with doing that? The 3 bolts seem strong enough to hold the cleaner, but IDK what could happen at higher speeds. Just wanted to see if anyone done this before.

wondering if the vibrations might shear off the bolts that go into the throttle body without the suppor those ears supply maybe fab up some type of support bracket that would fit between the head and the breathers

You can drill and tap the breather ears for a 1/8" NPT to fit a brass male nipple fitting. Then, attach hoses down to a small canister type filter available from Doherty and vent the breathers to the atmosphere. This wil maintain the five point attachment; I wouldn't trust the three point attachment and hanging that load on the intake.

This won't make you immune for ever having oil dumped into the air cleaner. Should breathers get blocked or you over fill the crankcase, it can still happen.

What if I dril and tap vents and plug the vents inside the backplate so the oil has no way of getting in?

Seems a bit extreme to me and unnecessary as well. Vent your breahers to the outside and the only way oil gets into the air cleaner is if the vent system clogs up preventing ventilation or you over fill the oil tank. Either way, you have a mess whether the oil gets into the air cleaner or not.

I got a breather crossover from jpcycles that actually came with brackets that attach to breather bolts and backplate. Just gotta cut and plug the ears and drill 2 holes for the brackets. Works pretty well.
