88 to 95
Hi everyone,
I’m starting to round up some parts and pieces for a winter project. I know it’s early but I like to get everything sort of lined up and do a little looking around for those parts long before I need them. I have a 05 Road King Classic and last winter I did the upgraded cam support plate, oil pump, bearings and 203 Screamin Eagle cams, maybe should went a little bigger but oh well. Now this winter I want to do a 95 kit, when I have it apart I’ll have the heads redone and pick up a better tuner. I’ve been looking a Power Vision tuner. I picked up another set of cylinders to get bored and have been looking at pistons. I think the Big Bore kit from HD has 9.5 to 1 pistons, but I’m not sure. Any recommendations on pistons, gasket kits from anyone who has already done this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Elwoodto

Nothing wrong with the SE203 cams. When the heads have been worked and the compression set for those cams, they perform well. There are many head porters; BigBoyz offers great value, Small Block Charlie offers affordable head porting/blue printing, Hillside Cycles, a forum sponsor offers head work and there are many others. Don't know where you are located but there may be one in your area.
Automotive Machine Supply (AMS) in Dallas offers a complete 96" "Hi Torque" package for $1495 that includes gaskets, 96" cylinders, flat top pistons, ported heads and your choice of several Andrews cams, cylinders, pistons, ported heads, AMS lifters, adjustable pushrods, cam gear and bearing set for a very reasonable price. Since you don't need the cam gear set, you should be able to buy it for less.
Or, have the cyliners bored to 3.875" (88") to fit a set of SE cast flat top pistons, or, have the cylinders bored to 3.938" (98") to fit a set of Wiseco forged pistons that you can get from Hillside Cycles; send them the cylinders and they will bore and fit pistons, gap rings, etc. and return to you.
There are many cam options; bolt in cams like the Andrews 37, SE204, Woods 6. Or you can go with longer cams like TMan 555, Woods 555, S&S 585, etc. Just need to select the cam before you have the headwork done so the heads can be setup for the cams.
If you select a cam with a different base circle and deck the heads, you will need adjutable pushrods. The SE Quick Install tapered kit is a good one; there are others.
Cometic .030" MLS for the head gasket and Cyco for the rest of the gaskets.
Tuner choice should be based on whatever your local tuner is comfortable using.
You didn't mention exhaust. A good 2:1 system will enhance the build; the V&H ProPipe is a very good buy and works well; one of the best scavenging pipes available.

Hey neighbor I'm down in the St. Johns area! Did a HQ package a few years back on my ''02 Heritage 88 and punched it out to a 95. Check out www.protwin.com for kits or for any questions they also have a forum for any questions.
