Default Fuel spray inside tank?

'07 Dyna Street Bob with EFI. Is fuel suppose to spray downward in the tank from the end of the filter housing? I heard there wasn't supposed to be any spraying in there unless you have a hose leak. It does it everytime I prime the pump by turning on the ignition.

Nope, not supposed to spray. You must have a leak in the fuel line between the fuel pump and filter. I just got through replacing my fuel filter and both fuel lines. Not a hard job, but pics on this site and vids on youtube will certainly help. Be sure and clean the pick-up pad too.

I pulled the entire assembly up so I can see it good. It sprays out of a little nozzle at the end of the filter housing each time I prime the pump by turning the RUN switch on. After talking to some non-experienced HD service people, I think it's doing what it should because when you prime it many times, the fuel isn't going to get pushed into the lines each time. If the lines are full already, it's going to have to push that fuel out. So I think the fuel pressure is already good and then a bypass opens up and squirts the fuel back into the tank. How else would it get back into the tank if not for that?

For anyone researching this in the future...it's a bypass valve. You won't here it the first time you pressurize the system, but after that you will.
