Default Slip on install help

I am putting V&H slip ons on my 07 Street Glide. The right side went on just fine and I torqued them down to 12 ft lb just like the instructions say to do. On the left side however I torqued it down and the slip on is loose enough I easily can move the muffler by hand. Do I just ignore the 12 ft lb and crank it down? Thanks in advance.

You can replace your clamps and apply the appropriate torque, or you can crank it down. I would crank it down until the muff fits tight into the pipe. Worst case, you'll end up replacing the clamp anyhow.

I am using the HD clamps because I read they are better than what comes with the pipes.

My paranoia is setting in now...I could just picture that slip on coming all the way off the pipe and the front of it hitting the ground while I am riding since the mounting point in the back allows the slip on to move back and forth

They need to be alot tighter than 12 foot pounds, crankem' down tight, if you can spin the muffler on the pipe there not tight enough.

This sounds about right for the clamps provided by V&H. I had some exhaust leakage problems causing decel popping until I went back with the HD clamps. They are the way to do it, absolutely bulletproof.

Thanks for the info. I used the HD clamps. I just didn't want to ruin anything cranking them down.

I think my service manual says 65FT/LBS. Mine would fall off with 12 FT/LBS.

Sorry my lack of knowledge disappoints you, the manual says 45-60 FT/LBS (page 4-38), I was off by 5 FT/LBS.
