My wifes 04 carbed Softail 88 runs fine most of the time but when she stops after a ride it idles at about 1500RPM. If it slowed after a few moments it wouldn't bother us but it goes on for a long time. Anybody got any opinions please??

 

Did you set idle without having the motor at operating temperature?

 

And check grips and cables for proper operation. --Sticking?

 

While it is doing that walk around the bike and check things over, like tugging at the throttle cables, closing the twist-grip fully. Is there some slack in the cables? If not they may be holding the throttle open. Cables may also be hanging up somewhere, preventing the throttle from closing fully. Could be something quite simple. If you can't trace the problem find yourself a local indy to take a look at it.
