Anyone painted the motor on a Standard?
I have a 05 fxst and plan to paint the motor black in the next few weeks. Has anyone done it in the past? I have done it on other motors (cars) and never had trouble with the motor getting too hot for the paint. Just want to make sure it won't crack and flake off with the temps these motors. Also should I paint my rocker tops or try to shine them up. I would prefer to have them black. Agian, not sure with the temp.

RE: Anyone painted the motor on a Standard?
I helped a buddy swap his covers for ones he had powdercoated black. He had the engine covers, tranny covers, and fork uppers and lowers done for 350 bucks. It is as glossy and slick as paint.

RE: Anyone painted the motor on a Standard?
have painted several of the hd engines, have not any issues with the heat at all using the single stage catialized automotive oem paints available thru ppg or dupont. the primary key as with all painting is the prep. the surfaces should be sanded or at least scotch brited (fairly course on the scotch brite. all sufaces must of couse be free of any oil residue. the rocker boxes have a clear coat on the and will not polish unless stripped i would either paint or by chome units. good luck[>:][]
