my attampt to tackle valve noise
#11
Here's another area to check for valve train noise, particularly if higher lift cams and/or aftermarket lifters are used. The lifter covers have some movement on the case and some aftermarket lifters are longer than the OEM lifters and with high lift cams, the lifters can make contact with the lifter cover. The fix is moving the lifters around on the case, doubling up the gasket and/or clearancing the lifter cover on the inside. The below picture is a lifter cover from a bone stock motor. If the OEM lifter can contact the lifter cover, the chancess for contact are increased with aftermarket components. Most of us never check the inside of the lifter covers for contact but another area to check when chasing valve train noise.

thanks for the post it is awsome when members try to help others
i for the most part have fixed my valve noise issues
i found my crank to be .007 out so i bought a hillside 98 kit (he is awsome) had my crank trued and welded by rev perf and have a strong running motor, no lifter tapping '
i have been fighting a little clatter, especially on decel but i beleive it is in my compensator.
was digging through some posts and found a service bulliten to go 45 degress past 75 ftlbs on the comp nut , i did not do that when re-assembling , only went by the manual
thanks for the post and the time you spend trying to help others
have a great weekend
