Lightbulb Andrews TW26 10.0:1 ???

On the Andrews site and in their catalog they show a dynograph of the TW26 w/ "modified" heads on a 95'' engine.....they cross 100hp and just short of 110tq. The more I've looked at the 26, the more I like it. And I'm not interested in "big #'s" for my own build. But why, if this "baby" cam can produce these #'s don't people use it for over 100/100 very often? Is there a serious tuning problem with this cam at that comp? What would really need done to the heads to work out the pinging if that is what it is that keeps the cam happy at that comp. I'm just curious here. I've read over and over that 9.5:1 static is a happy spot for the 26, but if you CAN get more, why not? Maybe people just like the cam for the reliability/longevity of the build while adding good performance. Not trying to start a bar fight here and I know it's been beat to death, but what gives?

i ran a 26 at 10 :1, 2 up most of the time, did have a ping problem with 5th gear roll-ons. If I was to run the 26 again it would be 9.8-9.9 w/ singh grooves and work from there, switched to a R&R 525 got more, smooth linear power but I liked the kick of the 26 more. I was getting 90hp And 101tq from the 26

I put a 26 and a big bore kit in my '06 fxst a few months ago. I sent the heads up to Hillside and Scott cc'd and decked the heads to get to 9.6-1, which is where he said they perform best. I wouldn't go any higher anyway since I don't want to deal with compression releases, a mild build is what I wanted. I'll have it dyno'd as soon as I get another 600 miles on it if the weather ever cooperates. Scott or someone else may chime in here and answer your question about running the 26 at a higher compression.

I run a 26 in my 2001 rdking at 9.6:1, 95" with headwork, Mikuni 42 and D&D Fatcat. Dyno's at 95hp and 103TQ with a great curve. All the power is in the fun range where the rubber hits the road. Not sure I wouild run that cam if I was going to 10:1 though.

That 26 is too short for 10:1 cr, as you will experience detonation.
9.6-9.7 is where you want to sign off.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't push that far with the cam unless I had the time/money to do it just to see. Seems like an experiment to do. Wonder why Andrews would post it? How far has anyone seen the cam pushed?

If you geared the bike down, so it wouldn't load the engine, spot-on tune, and ran an oil cooler(s) to keep the heat at bay, along with a very free-flowing head, you could probably push it out to 10.2-3.
Key word here is "probably".

Run the Andrews 37 at about 10:1. Much better match at that compression and a very good cam. I know that's not exactly what you were speculating about, but is a better match for that compression.
