Default review=S&S mufflers

Hello again,

This review covers the installation and opinions of the S&S mufflers which can be used in lieu of SE II's with of course the air cleaner kit and recalibration i've been talking about. first off, the quality of the chrome is first rate, absolutely stunning! polish them up and they just glow........

Install can be tricky, and since I tend to be very picky at times, I didn't mind. All of the mounting brackets are the same as stock. As I mentioned in an earlier post, they are only available in the "baloney cut" style, and where the SE II pipes say "Screamin' eagle II", they say S&S in their cursive style that you see in their articles.

When you look down the mufflers the difference is clear. The baffling is quite a bit less than an SE II, but also the quality of construction is twice as good. These mufflers are designed and put together RIGHT!

Sound? Well, my Dyna sounds like it's really got a pair of ***** now! These pipes are on the loud side, it definitely sounds like a nasty old HOG.

Recommendation? Way to go, but neighbotrs are gonna complain if you start the thing too early or late. even idling, the bike is just a beast!

joe

P.S. pictures will be posted soon.......

Hello traveler
I also just bought a pair of S&S slip-on mufflers.
It was time for the 1k service so while he had it
I had my MC machanic install them along with a
Stage-I Big Sucker air filter, and he modified
the stock CV carb to work with it.
You are correct about LOUD but Bold sound.
This upgrade really woke-up my 05 FXDWG.
I can really tell it in higher gears at lower RPM.
I don't need Dyno to tell I have picked up a
ton of torque.
You have mentioned several times that S&S slip-ons
only come in "baloney cut" style. These are Slash-cut,
faceing outward 90 degrees from the bike.
They says Slash-cut on the box they were packaged in.
Are you sure that your pair is not Slash-cut? All I have
seen in the catalog, and on-line at their www are slash-cut.

Hi,

Baloney cut is what they're called by Screamin' Eagle.

I thought Screamin' Eagle gave a choice of both.
From what I have seen the Baloney cut has a
more round/slanted cut, and the slash cut is
more of a sharper/pointed cut.
I like the slash cut much better but they both look good

Joe, when you say tricky what do you mean?? I'm thinking of getting the S&S sip on mufflers with a Doherty Air Kit and a Power Commander and installing all myself. Thanks

Joe,

When I say tricky, it's because I took off both stock mufflers and the bracket that goes between them all off at once. That makes it tricky becasue you have to get all of the bolts started but not tighten anything up until you've got it exactly where you want it. Then you have to keep going back and tighten up the clamps because as you tighten some of the bolts, the others "get loose" again. Not a big deal, just make sure you take your time.
