Default Heads heads heads old vs new

Ok I was reading a page on Bigboys were they compaired the 04 heads with the 05 heads. They say the 05 heads are better flowing then the 04 heads. What is the difference between the 05 and newer heads????

Would going to the newer then 05 heads make that much of a difference to justify buying them???

I have my SE flat tops for my 95 upgrade sitting here on the bench. Just need to get the jugs bored.

Current setup is an 88 with Andrews 26 cams, Se intake, Older 64910-99 SE slipons, Se pro super tuner, high flow oil pump & stock 05 head pipe.

I have an 05, and i think the only difference between 04 and 05 heads were just the valve stem diameters and the valve springs. and most head shops take all that **** out and reinstall the older HP stuff anyway. I have heard that the 06 and newer heads have a slightly different port design that may offer a slight flow advantage.

No real advantage gong from '04 to '05 heads. Yeah, beehive springs with a little higher lift and smaller valve stems but for a street build, no real difference. As a matter of fact, IIRC, the '05 intake valve was a wee bit smaller. '05 heads were also notorious for leaking valve guide seals; many were replaced, reluctantly, under warranty.

If you are going to buy heads to upgrade, get a set of '06 and later, lower floor in the exhaust port, larger exhaust port; much better flowing than previous years. Those are going for $225-$250 on Ebay.

Use a .030" Cometic MLS head gasket when you reassemble.

06 up heads out flow those mentioned.
Certainly no magic bullet though, but a great platform for which to perform port work to.
Once those flat top pistons are installed, you'll want to cc which ever heads you have, and insure that the chamber size is correct for that 26.
You'll want to set that at 9.6 cr.
