Default HD tech sense or non sense ?

So I went to my local Dealer(Stealer)ship then I went to the parts and ask questions about some things I've been reading and asking around ...

So according to the Hd tech On a stock bike if you change any parts of the exhaust system (the whole thing, slip, ons or just baffles) you MUST remap (250$) and the map they're offering is not the best ... Then after a while if I want to put another air intake I WONT need to remap because they're map.

And even after arguying with the guy, saying that the intake is going to change the air ratio he tells that you dont need to remap since its already done.

Altough I dont know much about injection bike, I found that odd.

Just wanted to share.

You can "get by" with an exhaust change and no remap; however, the engine will still be running lean and hot. If you were to do a factory Stage I upgrade, i.e., SE slipons and SE intake, there is a map for that but if the exhaust or intake are aftermarket the map is worthless.

The smart move is to save your sheckles until you can afford to install whatever exhaust and intake the you want, a tuner (PCV, TTS Mastertune, TMax, SERT, etc.) and get the upgraded engine tuned. You are looking at $1000 plus to make that change but the engine will run better and cooler.

Yes I know, what's bugging me is the fact that he claims that once his map is installed I can change the air intake without doing anymore tuning

Sounds like you know about as much as he does. Don't go back, find another shop.

Maybe all of their canned maps are with free flowing intake filters, I know the V&H tuner is that way. The Supermeg can be tuned with a certain amount of disc's where it will run alright without a tuner and when you get ready for more air and a tuner you can add disc's or the open end cap.

From what I've read today ... for minor mods if the bike runs well then leave it be like that.

The HD maps are crap and are following epa lean standards anyways. And anyways the dealers sells everything almost the double priced of everything I've looked on the internet from a t-shirt to an exhaust

To take the most of it a tuner is the way to go.
