Default S&S Carb Question... Bike running RICH

Hey.

I have a 1999 XL1200 with an S&S E carb and intake (purchased it that way).

The bike is running WAY rich and I'm noticing gas staying pooled in the throat of the carb and sometimes leaking into the filter.

Stuck float maybe?

I've tried leaning out the idle screw and it has ZERO effect at any range.

I just want some ideas before I tear into the carb.

Thanx!

Yeah, if you got it second hand no telling what evil is lurking inside that float bowl. Debris, wrong float height, or damaged needle and seat. Quick and easy to check on a S&S though.

Turn the petcock off, pull the backing plate off the carb, drain the carb via the the large brass plug at the bottom of the bowl, and there are 4 screws that hold the float bowl in place.
Take a good look to see what's wrong, let us know what you find.

Thanx guys.

This morning I cranked up her up like I try to do everyday and something happened...

I gave it some gas and the bike ran up to probably 3000 RPM on its own and started pouring fuel out of the carb throat into my air filter and all over my pipes???

HELP!

Shut the petcock off and remove the fuel bowl. Sounds like you've either got something stuck in the needle or seat or the adjustment on the float is off.

Cool.

I will hit the bike shop this afternoon and grab some rebuild parts and start hitting it after class tonight.

Thanx everyone.
