Default carb question

What kind of carb is in the pictures below?
I just bought this bike (first Harley - first bike in a long time) and the seller said it had an aftermarket carb on it. I don't remember what kind he said it was, and I can't see anything on it. I also couldn't find any pics online that looks exactly like it.

Thanks!

That is a Mikuni Flat Slide Smoothbore. Probably 42mm.

I have an old 40mm that looks just like it, but they discontinued the 40 mm quite a while ago, maybe 15 years...

Whichever one it is, it is a great carburetor. Lots of tuning information available from the distributor, Sudco.

Thanks!

If I take a caliper to it, will it give me the right measurement to find out which one it is?

It looks like a 42 to me.

The 40 has two vent nipples on the front, but your carb has a single vent nipple on the left of the inlet (there is no hose on the vent nipple in the pic).

Is there supposed to be a hose on it?

What's the nipple on the bottom?

Yes there is usually a hose on it, nothing will come out of the vent, but a hose will keep water from getting in.

The bottom nipple is for an overflow hose.
