Will running leaded gasoline harm a TC88?
Looking for ways to boost octane to keep my the engine on my '05 FXDI from pinging, which seems to occur under heavy acceleration when the ambient temperature is around 90 or higher. I was thinking about trying a 50/50 mix of Premium and 100 octane Avgas. Problem
is, the Avgas contains lead. Anyone know of a specific reason why this might be bad?

It's been a while since i thought about it, but the way I remember it is that the lead would mess up cat converters and possibly 02 sensors. If you don't have either one it shouldn't be a problem. Anyone else out there feel free to correct me if you know better.

lead will affect the valves and guides. dont use lead. if you need more octanefeed it 93 premium and add harley fuel additive. I have used this myself with good results. however ,it should not be pinging and a good tune should resolve that. I use the additive for cleaning combustion chambers and ridding carbon buils up although you will notice more power when you use it. i use it in about every third tank a $4.95 bottle will do you for 8 tankfuls. one half ounce per tank. I use when i first start out on a long road trip but not in between stops. one tankfull will clean the dep[osits from the engine and running at highway speeds keeps it clean anyway.believe me if you use lead you will burn the valves.

The harley fuel additive isn't going to do anything for pinging if it's heat or jetting related. If you want to try octane as a solution, a 25% mix of race fuel with unleaded should be more than enough. You will not have anything to worry about.
