Default head work or 103"

build is 96", rinehart 2 into 1, wimmer better sucker, andrews 30t, andrews 54h, andrews adj push rods, pcv tuner. I am pretty happy with the build but either want head work or 103". Witch would you pic and why? or just get it tuned and go? i basicly need a compression bump for the cams.

Well .... I was basically in the same situation as you with 96"/204's. I opted for a set of SE 103" flat tops for $125 and a bore-hone for $110 = $235. By the time the heads are off it takes very little to remove the cylinders/pistons so labor time/$ very minimal.

I'm doing the same but having the heads done at the same time, hey they are off already

If you can't do both; headwork. However, it would be a shame to be so close to 103" and miss the opportunity. If you are happy with the build, get her tuned and wait until you can do both.

well i am happy with the build, but cannot help but think the bump in compression would no doubt take full advantage of the work already done. the 103 would do that with no down time, but I fear that I will end up doing it twice. I had a master plan for 110" but $$ has turned into a concern all of a sudden. so just want to wring the most out of what I have.

i would say displacement first, because the cams you have wouldnt take full advantage of proper head work. i have a 95 with Head-quarters heads on a 95.

It runs really well, but i got used to it really fast.

now i want to go to 103 or 107.

If i had a 96, i get some pistons with large valve reliefs, (not SE cast ones).

and then, later you could get a head and cam combo (read hi lift) later that would really kick but.

I'll also get some head work done when it's apart...

I prefer CP or Wiseco.

the CP have a part number with like a 1.3 cc dome and huge valve reliefs, with stock heads and a thinner HG the compression would be decent.

and later you could CC the heads when they get reworked and have and easy 10.5 or higher depending on what cylinder pressure you need to support your cam choice.

For me, im looking into a Tman 103 or 107.

and using his 662 cams, they have 3 variants: the 662-1, -2, -3.

I will give them my riding style, fuel quality and such, and let them give me required compression to match the head work to match to the cam.

Side-step the 103", and go to 107".
With that piston of ours, with the 4cc dome, the compression can be set spot-on for the cam, via machining.
The 4cc dome/.030" head gasket yields 10.5 cr under the OE chamber.
When we pull that down to a flat top, -2.3cc's shows up. (Machined at no charge)
11 cubic inch increase, and spot-on compression, will have a DRAMATIC change throughout the entire rpm band.
