Not impressed with cams!

Not impressed with cams!
I just had my cams installed and I didn't get very much seat of the pants feel. It pulls harder in the low end but falls on its face at about 4000 rpms. I also had a 42 mikuni put on at the same time. I have true dual head pipes and screamin eagle slip ons. I also have the crane adjustable ignition. Just curious about settings and tuning tips for the mikuni. Oh I also have a hypercharger intake which doesn't seem to flow as well as my old screamin eagle. The cams are the Kuryakyn wild things tc2's. 510 lift and 248 242 duration. I would think the top end should be better. Any ideas?

RE: Not impressed with cams!
I agree... It should make decent power.
Regarding tuning the HSR42.... THere is a great tuning guide in the back of the owners manual. "Usually", they are decent right out of the box and don't need anything but fine tuning, unless you have a radical build.... which does not sound like the case here.
What else is in your build? 95", compression, etc? Whose duals?

the mikuni is very lean out of the box. those cams should pull very hard to 5800 or more. Open that big nut on the bottom of your float bowl. If main jet is a 165 try a 180 and see if she pulls harder. I believe you will need a good dyno tuner to sort the carb and ignition setting..........

TDshepard I think you hit it right. I pulled the plugs and they are on the white side. I am going to pull the bowl off tomorrow and see what kind of jets are in it.
that is the extent of my build the duals are bassani, stock heads pistons and cans. I saw a dyno sheet where they were getting 92 ponys with these cams and stock heads. but with a 2 into 1 pipe though.

Otterbob, I went to the Kury website to look at the cams. The TC2 is called a bolt in and has conservative exhaust numbers. You should check it out. That must be how they retain cylinder pressures that don't require higher compression pistons or head work. I think nsodpty52 may have a pretty good 92 h.p. combination if he can get the jetting and ignition curve dialed in.

If you ever run into Mike Roland at a major bike event, talk to him. He is very personable and will explain anything you want to know. His cam power numbers are far better than anyone elses I've seen (if they are true). He seems to be the real deal and he fired up that crusher bike they have oin the website. It sounds healthy but very streetable. It makes a claimed 120 HP 110 Torque from a 95 CI TC.
You can check out their numbers here.

I havn't run their cams yet, but I was going to before August 12th happened.
good luck

RE: Not impressed with cams!
Mopar Dave thanks for the info about Mike Roland. Those dyno #'s are the reason I went with the Kury cams. I hope my problems lye in the tuning. The bike with domed pistons, on those dyno figures, is turning outrageous numbers! I may have to go with the pistons next.
