07-10 heads on a 05
I have a chance to buy some 2010 heads as I want to send a set over to the US to a reputable head builder but still want to keep the knees in the breeze if you know what I mean.
Can I get them 2010 heads worked on & when they come home to me, put them on a 2005 fatboy.
Would there be any drawbacks in doing this or if there is any positives what would they be.
Thanks for any input in advance

Short answer is yes.
Longer answer is yes but if you are planning a mild street build, the later heads will provide a significant improvement as the come out of the box; they are much improved over the earlier heads. 2005 was probably the worst year for HD heads; smallest intake valve and poor guide seals. Many had valve guide seals replaced under warranty.
Just remove your old heads and save them for future porting, bolt on the later heads with a .030" Cometic head gasket, a set of Andrews TW37 cams if upgrading displacement to 95" or Andrews TW26 cams if keeping displacement at 88", a good 2:1 exhaust system like the V&H Pro Pipe and rejet carb or retune if EFI.
If you don't have access to a dyno tune facility, talk to the tuner and purchase the fuel mangement system that the tuner likes to work with. If no access to dyno tune facility, you will need to purchase/install one of the "pot" type systems like the Techlusion TFI
http://www.dobeckperformance.com/sho...ct.asp?pid=257
or the TMax with auto tune feature
http://www.thunder-max.com/Default.aspx
You can install either system.
If the bike is carbed, you will need to rejet; start with 46 pilot, 190 main and the Sporty needle (PN 27094-88) or shim the stock needle .050" with some brass washers available from most hardware stores.

Thanks for your reply djl
I had a feeling that 05 heads were the worst made from reading other stories
My plan is to go 98", woods 6-6r, SE 1.725 rockers, bigger valves & polish with whatever else is needed in those heads to to suit my build, maybe 48mm HPI throttlebody if I need it.
Already have a Fatcat & TTS so I'm part way there

The later model heads have more of a raised floor, and are a great platform from which to begin port work.
A 1.900" intake, or in some cases, we use a 1.940",(w/seat replacement) on those 98"s. 2" and/or larger, for other applications as well.
Black Diamond valves/Kibblewhite guides, along with a Crane 1101 spring, cc'd/surfaced, and all port work, with flow data upon request, would be our methodology.
Fellow forum member, RyanL, showed 110/110 on T-Man's dyno with the Wood 6/98"/1.940 Head (Stage III)/Fatcat.
From what 'ol Ryan told us, they'd never seen that from a Wood 6.
We had been under the assumption, that was what it is supposed to do.
As far ar the t/body a 51mm HPI, with a 1.710" intake manifold, would be just the ticket.
