How can I make big power quietly?
#22
I'm in Syracuse. 3 years or so ago, I came out to Munnsville, talked to you guys about motor work on my 2006 Ultra. Instead of doing the motor, I bought a Buell 1125R that year. I sold that Buell this spring after Harley shut down Buell.
I don't consider that Buell to be one of my better ideas.

I read through all the suggestions ... now here's mine.
The 103 is a great motor "out of the box" so to speak.
I'd get it and ride it like it was built BEFORE even considering what else it needs to give me the performance I wanted.
I'm just NOT from the school of : Buy a New Bike and have it "souped up"so it's badder than stock (often done before even having it delivered).
You may find that Harley built a bike that has everything you need working very well stock.
Perhaps I'm just grateful to afford a good used bike and be able to keep it on the road. And surprising my stock '86 FLTC is a very powerful and fast machine just the way Harley built it.
Guess I don't have thousands of dollars worth of disposable income to throw at making a fast machine faster and louder, or to coat it in chrome parts and gadgets.
Am I the only one running a stock Harley and content ... I'll bet not!
I'll never understand how you can buy something new and not be satisfied with it the way it is built. If that's the case I'd be looking at a builder like Big Dog that puts together the flashy, showy monster Harley looking bikes with nothing but performance components. Then you'd have a "one of a kind" for what you're going spend to rebuild a brand new Harley.
I know none of this was part of your consideration but think about it.

I am going with SuperTrapp Supermegs or Bub 7 Stealths (duals). If I can decide that I can live with the look of a single exhaust on a bagger.........I will go with the Supermegs. I have about a month to decide before I order.
JohnnyC: I have ridden cafe' bikes and built hot rods my whole life. Acceleration is an addiction and I am an addict. I wanted a bagger for comfort and for longer rides and told myself I would not mess with the engine.....I would just cruise and in turn, save money in the process. BUT alas, I can't stand it. I just want to go faster. I'll work OT, sell crap, do whatever.......to finance it. I just can't take it. I have to go faster; I just have to. I am a former smoker of 25 years plus and have now went nearly 2 years without a single puff.........but this is harder me. I also sort of miss the drag strip environment.......and figure a bagger would be cool at the local track. Looks like I just fell off the wagon.

I can relate it to riding the magnum at cedar point. After a few trips it felt comfortable and the thrill was gone. Now they have rocket machines sending you into outerspace at 165 mph in 3 seconds ... Not even interested in seeing if my back and heart could take that ride ... lol
So drag racing is in your blood.
I can appreciate that everyone of us are unique, makes the world interesting.
I've been having fun on the forum here, I feel like I'm an outsider being more of a purest when it comes to having a fine machine to ride. Traveling is my preference these days, with stop offs anywhere it looks interesting. Hope to slow down and enjoy the thrill of floating across the countryside on my Harley listening to my tunes and in the background hear my motor runnin'.
