I've used that style on my current and last TC's works great except in heavy rain, which I avoid

 

Sorry for the delayed response...didn't check back to this post for a bit[] Anyway, as stated there is a 5 star pointed thingy that comes with the trim piece and you have to attach that to the filter first and then put the 5 small screws into the 5 points of the star. When attaching this to the stock football cover you do not need any modification. When attaching it over the air filter itself (at least on my Big Sucker K&N filter) I had to put a semi-thick washer between the star and the filter to get the small screws to be able to fit in the holes as they were too short.
