To me, that more than offsets the time and coin spent on dino changes every 2500 miles.
Bike still runs excellent!

Blame it perhaps on a well tuned engine if you will, but, on my 99' RoadStar 1600 air cooled V-Twin 98ci with 86,000 trouble free miles on her, I have used Amsoil V-Twin 20-50 since the start...I always changed the oil out after 10,000 miles and the filter with a oil top off at 4500 miles.

I think Tazz is in the neighborhood.
The thing with the high end oils is the they can use a more often filter change. Any oil can really today.
I love the 5 micron filter and the idea of clean oil but---
The late model filter catching 5 micron just asks for more often changing.
I do this with my Dodge diesel and the wifes Honda Accord V6.
And there are a lot of things that could have caused that cam, at the begining of this thing, to loose the hard surface.
I really doubt the oil did it.
I run Amsoil and really only a couple of oils available to most are at this level.
I know its a can of worms but Amsoil, Redlind and Mobil 1.
Like somebody said once or I read it, When we all were paying for oil change, Manufactures said, every 3500 miles. Then a couple Manufactures started paying, free oil and filter change, for the oil change with the Warrenty. All of a sudden 10K-15K was OK with them.

I don't use Amsoil, but I don't believe that failure was related to the type of oil either. Holding that cam shaft in your hand indicates possible defective bearing or possible failure due to insufficient lubrication to the top end. If it were me, I'd be draining my oil and filter and checking for more crud elsewhere. Also, you might want to check your oil pump or consider changing.

I responded to your "original" comment shown above...stating I run 10,000 miles on a bigger air cooled engine for the last decade with zero issues.
Now, your comment is:
To which I would probably still run Amsoil at least for 5000 miles without any worry, given I always rode my Roadie 1600 very hard.
With time n money, we have the choice to change our oils with anything we want and every 100 miles if we choose to. I prefer to spend the time rollin.
