Angry I think I need another carb

My 93 Dyna has been running real rough lately. Some backfiring through the carb. Have to keep it choked for a long time. It usually does this for the first few miles and then smooths out. Idle is low untill it gets hot then idles faster. It sits for long periods. Has for many years.

I decided to take the carb off and clean it out. It had a lot of crud in the bowl, pretty dirty inside. Fuel was leaking from the accel pump gasket also.

Dissasembling the carb, I was trying to get the pin out of the float, one of the mounts broke right off. I guess the carb is trash now?

Should I look for a stock replacement? It has the numbers 27493-96 on a tag stuck on the carb. Is there a better choice, S&S or something aftermarket?

It has a K&N filter and drag pipes on it.

Got a picture of what you mean by you broke one of the float mounts off?

Try looking for a carb body on ebay.

He is refering to the float support pillars.
Not hard to break one, if not supprted correctly during disassembly.
Should be able to snag one for $40-50.00 on flea-bay.

Exactly, float support pillar is broken.

Am I better off rebuilding a stock carb or going with an Edelbrock or S&S, or maybe a Mikuni? I see they all offer a replacement for a stock carb.

Also, with a K&N and drag pipes how should it have been jetted? I hope who ever did the pipes and filter re-jetted it. I would just like to make sure it is right. I can switch my jets from the broke carb over to the next stock carb, if they are right.

I put a Mikuni 42 on mine. It ran perfect right out of the box with lightly baffled drag pipes and what would be considered a stage one air cleaner. It also has an accessible idle adjustment (you can adjust it on the fly) and it comes with extra jets if needed.

They also make a 45 and a 48, but those are for motors with head work and/or strokers.
