Hey, I have a 06 Street Bob and I want to get street sweepers made by sammson. My question is how affective is a heat shield and is it worth paying extra for? Also does my stock bike have a heat shield? Ive only had the bike for a few months and am a complete noob,thanks for any and all help.

 

Yes your stock exhaust has heat shields, yes you should buy the heat shields. Unless wrapping them fit the look of your bike, they'll start to look really ugly really quick without the shields.

 

Heat shields keep the pipes looking new & add a gap between hot pipes to diffuse some of the heat. Now...if you're looking at black pipes then the discoloration isn't a factor. Another option, if you want to pass on shields, is to get the pipes ceramic coated...adds another heat protection layer.
