Default Screamin eagle air intake

so i bought the HD stage 1 for my '09 electra glide and i dont understand something. would appreciate any help i could get.

when i look at the breather holes (that allow air into engine) and on my stock and compare them to the holes on the SE, the SE holes are only about 1/3 (or less) the size of the stock holes. so how am i getting more air into the engine when i have smaller holes than stock? What's the point of having such a large filter if im not getting more air in?

thanks
jim

my guess would be that the SE filter itself allows more air suck as the K&N and the design of the canister it is in directs the air into the holes better.

The SE kit only has the metal backing plate that attaches to the throttle body or carb. Not following the "holes" comment? With the SE kit, the air filter is fully exposed on the engine side; there are no restrictions to intake air flow.

no pro here, but i do know that the same amount of air will flow faster through smaller holes than it will through larger ones...maybe that has something to do with the design.

thanks for your inputs,

to further clarify,
there are 2 small holes on the back plate
when i put the filter on the back plate, it appears to me that the only way air can get into the engine is thru those 2 holes. I would asume that if air could come in other places, there would be no need for the two holes?

again thanks
jim

Your backplate should have a large hole in the middle, in the center of where the air filter sits.

post some pics. the air comes in from the engine side of the filter, but not through the two holes in the backing plate; it comes from around the filter through the space between the exterior of the filter and the air cleaner cover. Those holes sound like the holes for the crankcase breather tubes and will allow unfiltered air to enter the intake and should be plugged if you are not using the internal crankcase ventilating system.

some photos would really help.
