Cam chain tensioner replace & oil

Cam chain tensioner replace & oil
I have a 2000 Road Glide with almost 74,000 miles. I've been out of the saddle for six weeks while the cam chain tensioners (extremely worn), cam shafts, bearings and cam chain were being replaced (long story about a cam shaft on back order). The entire repair was covered by the factory warranty; best insurance I ever purchased. When I picked up my ride Saturday, the shop said I was a quart low on oil (I have my doubts as I topped of the oil before I took the bike in) and billed me for a quart of HD dino. However, I run Castrol synthetic oil. Two questions: 1. Will it harm anything to continue riding with the dino and synthetic mix? 2. When removing the cam cover how much oil is lost (i.e. did the repair work result in the loss of a quart of oil?)

I am shaking my head as to why this was an issue. Shouldn't an oil change have accompanied this type of work?

With all the junk that maybe in the filter and who knows where else, the dealer should have changed the oil and filter.

I would have run the engine after the repair, then dumped and changed the oil. Don't think it will hurt to run the mixed oils in your engine, but I would do a complete oil change just to make sure any crap getting in during the tensioner replacement gets out.

As an auto mechanic, I cannot fathom performing engine work of that nature and not changing the oil afterward. As far as the oil mix, there are numerous companies blending synthetic and petro oils. I doubt it would hurt anything, but in this case you should drop that oil asap.
