Default slip ons

I have 'kerker' slip on mufflers on my stock 02 road king and i have noticed that the mufflers have brownish spots on them. i was told that the bike is running to lean causing the mufflers to get to hot. please give me some advice on this. i want to change out he headers and air cleaner eventually just dont know in which order or if it would help the slip ons.

A yellow tint is an indication of running too lean. Brown or bluish/purple is rich indication. Check your spark plugs. Good place to start to see how rich or lean the bike is running.
