Rebuild, or start fresh?

Rebuild, or start fresh?
OK, I've got an '83 FLTC that I'm selling to a friend, and will help build a Bobber from it.
The motor has had some lower-end work done, and has about 35K miles on it.
I've seen on EBay S&S Shovelhead motors & trans sets for about 6K.

That's just one example, at a bit higher price.
I also figure he can sell the motor in the bike now, and re-coup some $$ spent for a new one. He should only have to spend (out of his own pocket) no more than 4K.
I'm leaning way towards him doing the S&S motor instead of a total rebuild.
Has anyone ever done anything such as this? Past experiance and or comments/suggestions would be most welcome.
Oh, one other thing... An Evo is a bit taller than a Shovel, and therefore will not fit in a Shovel frame. (So I've been told) Is that correct? How about the S&S Pans? What would that fit be like? The Pan is such a cool-looking motor, isn't it!
TIA, EBK.
