Default help with my peeling gas tank sealant

I was going to take my fatboy out for the first time this year and noticed that the yellow sealant in the tanks are peeling off. Removed the tank filter and it is clogged with chips. What is the best way to reseal the tanks? Any help would be great.

I've had the same issue in the past...It's a royal pain trying to chip off the old sealant and get the chips out of the tank...Lots of patience and time will be required!

An expensive alternative is to find another pair of tanks and start over....Do this as an absolute last resort!!

red kote or kreme are what you can use to re coat or seal the tanks they also make a stripper i cant remember the name of it but you put it in the tank and it will eat the rest of the old sealer off we used it on my dads 03 ultra but you have to be dam careful with it as it is a stripper and you do not want to get it on the outside of the tank or it will eat the paint. Just have to go slow and swish it around etc then flush and clean the tank and apply the kreme or red kote its not a fun process and but not hard just meticulous and time consuming.

You can buy aircraft grade paint stripper at your local auto parts store. Just make sure you mask the exterior paint on your tank(s). Once you get it stripped, you can find the Kreme coating on e-bay. It comes in a 2 part kit.One bottle is for etching the tank and the other is the coating. I've used this product last year with good results.

A girl I know had this problem in late '05, with her just out of warranty Deuce. Harley "good willed it" and had a place that lines helicopter tanks strip and reseal it. No problems nearly 5 years later. The FAA is pretty strict. I would go that route for peace of mind.
