Default What type of motor

Here's the deal. I need a new motor, should I rebuild mine or buy a new one. I could buy a new s&s with edelbrock heads, but a local bike builder says they're not that good and says to buy a revtech. Any info will help.

I have though about what i will do when that day comes and i believe i will do alot of research and go to a builder keeping the harley engine and beefing it up considerably. I got a buddy at work that took his new softail that was the 88 cubic inch motor and he is turning out 90 some horse and almost 100 torq.

I just cant see buying a new motor especially a non harley motor and putting it in and for what a guy would spend on the new motor or a harley remanufactured he could build a hell of a motor in my opinion

In the short time I've researched, sounds like revtech is not the way to go, nothing but bad things.

I wouldn't let that local builder touch it if he thinks Revtech is better than S&S.

+10 -- unless he is getting a kickback from RevTech or you plan on selling the bike after the motor install -- S&S makes a great motor proven on the street and strip

I went with an S&S 107 in my old Glide, partly because of their reputation, partly because none of the cheaper engines available at the time seem to be reliable, but also because of their warranty. I didn't want a re-manufactured stock engine because there is so much better performance available.

Me.. I would do a full rebuild!! My local engine builder can build, fabricate, weld ANYTHING! Hes actually doing 2 evos right now. IF you can find a good builder spend the money and build the hell out of it! Highly doubt an aftermarket engine would provide anything more than a competent engine builder can do. My guy did my 95" motor and its freakin insane! 101 hp 104 tq. He does his own machine work and is meticulous as hell!!
