Default Engine rebuild, gasket sealant

Is Gasgacinch the best brand of sealant for rebuilding an engine? I have always used Permatex products in the past, but a fellow builder swears by Gasgacinch. I have also seen that several transmission builders in the area use it in lieu of Permatex products. Just looking for some input...does anyone know what Harley service manuals call for?

Thanks,

Dragonfire

+1 on the Gasgacinch. I use it all the time. I can't answer your question about the service manual.

I can't see any reference in my manual to using either of the products mentioned, but then I haven't attempted a major engine rebuild, so haven't read it through thoroughly. I am surprised you are stripping an engine without a manual!

I have the OEM service manual (not a Clymers) and it is not mentioned in there. All it says is to use Harley recommended gasket sealant prior to mating the gasket to the sealing surface. Must be an 'insider' thing that you have to use my Ovaltine Secret Decoder Ring to be allowed such privileged information.

Don't really need it, but if you must; Hondabond or Yamabond.

Only sealer one should EVER use on a newer (Twin Cam)bike is Yamabond for the case halfs. NO WHERE ELSE gets ANY kind of sealant. Old shovel? That's a different story!! HAHA
