Default few questions about 06 Bob

had my bob for 3 weeks has less than 300 miles on it ...completely stock exhaust no changes at all....

tonite i when i started it up to head home on my 5 block journey it coughed a few times on me....

i get home and get off, leave it running to see if it will do it anymore and look at the pipes and they are glowing red under the heat shields...

is this normal????? for it to get so hot in just 5 blocks and running a total of 5 minutes?

sorry if i didnt explain well enough new to the whole world of motorcycles...so please excuse me..lol

thanks Bigmo

the reason the pipes are so hot is that the motor is running very lean. they are set up that way to improve exhaust emissions. if i was you i would take your bike back to the dealer, explain the symptoms, including the coughing, and ask for their advice. maybe if you exaggerate the coughing of the engine a bit, that may make them take it more seriously. if you get no help, maybe fit a power commander, or similar. you can use these devices to alter the fuel settings on the motor yourself

Exhaust glowing red is not normal. The bikes are set on a lean burn from factory but it will not cause pipes to get red hot. They are calibrated to run a 14.7:1 ratio. I would take it to the dealer and have them look at it. You may have a leaking injector.

Dealer ASAP! Over fueling, for some reason your mixture is not right. Red hot pipes are not normal.

Best regards.

Mimo.

Had same problem with wifes streetbob--the bikes WAY LEIN on fuel mixture from the factory--the epa likes it that way, Just richen in up--Several options----I recommend A PCIII, pipes, air cleaner kit & HAVE IT DYNOED--Dont have to have it dynoed but it helps. Good luck!

Too lean, came that way to make the EPA happy.
Go talk to your dealer about it... but don't panic.
