Default 1 3/4" vs. 2" pipes

I have a 97 1200 sporty and when I look for pipes for my bike I see both sizes. Im just curious, does the bike take both sizes? and if so whats the pro's/con's to each? Im just wanting some cheap drag pipes for a rat bike. anyways any info would be great thanks

A bigger diameter pipe has the ability to provide more power, but if they are drag pipes I doubt it makes a difference.

Stay with the 1. 3/4 the bike will run better and easy to tune. The 2'' are for more of a bigger engines that makes a lot more power. Thats as easy as I can say it. LOL With out getting into it.

thanks for the input. I was just trying to figure out why there were 2 different sizes and if it had anything to do a sporty being either 883 or 1200. 1 3/4' it is

The 2" pipes as Drago so correctly put it are for bigger displacement engines, bigger than 74"(1200cc) that is.

one major thing to look at also when trying to figure out what pipe is also to look at the exhaust valve and intake valve. if you have heads that have ea 2in intake and larger exhaust the a larger pipe will work. that usually means you hould have the compression, cam and valve train to support the larger pipe. more of a upper rpm pipe so to speak of. 99% of the bike out on the road would never benefit from a 2 inch pipe. there is a lot more to it but the other guys said it better

Stay with 1 3/4" pipes. If you go 2" you will lose all your low end torque.

Right now I am testing a set of my own true duals for baggers they will be 1.3/4 from the head 4" down and 2 inch all the way out and will have my own slip ons that will be 2" dia and 3.50 out with a 2.5" baffle in side for big motors and high hp tq. . I will be looking for people to test them in the future. Not ready yet. But they will be my design and made by a very good company. That many people buy from here. Cat let the cat out of the bag yet!!!!!!!! I hope by spring/summer.

Thanks,
