Typically, in your situation, one would not install stock bore pistons in a stock bore engine that may have some cylinder wear. One would purchas .010" over bore pistons and have the cylinders honed to fit the pistons per the manufacturers spec. If the pistons were not properly fitted to the cylinders, that could be your problem.

BTW, the white smoke would bother me. I have never had any kind of smoke while breaking in a new build.

Sounds to me like piston slap. AKA, piston too loose in the bore= white smoke.

SE203 cams are designed for stock, flat top pistons. You may simply have a ton more compression than you figured? Sounds like you have ping, knock, detonation?
Also new engines should not smoke....at least after they have run long enough to burn off the assy lube(s).

Mckittrick I have been where you are sorta, installed some KB's in a 95 " build and the piston skirts collapsed after 1500 miles, made awful noise, piston slap, you also have to be very careful about the clearence on KB pistons, if to much, piston slap, if there was more than 2 thous clearence with these pistons then you have problems, and I can not see putting them into a stock bore that has already ran because of clearence, also if you have that much comp with a 203 cam it will be a ping monster no matter what you do, you will need to change cams to bleed off some pressure, a later closing on the intake should do, if you still running the stock tensioners get ahold of a SE 211 and stick in there that should help alot, if there isn't piston slap then your hearing detonation because of to much comp with the cam, if a indy shop did the work I would question them on the clearence of the pistons also.

I'm with Kirby on this one. Scott will probably say the same.

Industry joke for a long time is that KB stands for Ka-boom!!
What is your cranking compresssion??(throttle wide open and 8 cranks on the starter)
You are probably over the mountain on the ccp, with that little 203.
Yeah, gotta' agree, that if your huffing white smoke, on a fresh set-up, something is certainly not correct.
Not the end of the world, but you sure need to get it addressed, asap.
