103 build cam question
Have a friend buying a '10 ultra classic & having a dealer installed 103 before he picks it up,sert, air cleaner & rush mufflers. He wants a 255 cam but i don't know what the cr on the 103 kit is,i'm afraid he may have hot start problems. If indeed that's the case,i was thinking andrews 21 or 26,but then there's the warranty issue. So that being said, any other se cam that's close?.He doesn't want to have to do cr's,offset crank gear,or any headwork etc.So 2 up,hilly-mountain type riding, bike will probably never go over 4-5k rpm, wants all the power from the bottom.

Just did a stage III with the 255 and i got the manual CR put in. Have put a 1000km on it and haven't had any problems with starting but its easy just hitting the CRs making it a habit soon as i shut it off i hit them.Oh ya by the way love the TQ on this build

I blindly started down that same route with an 08 Ultra, and the dealer was going to install 10.5:1 CR pistons, new valves, etc. More research on my part led me to believe that on a 900 lb. bike I would be better off and have less heat generation with 10:1, 9.9:1 more precisely after head work. Using Woods tw7h cam. The build is in progress. There's a lot more knowledgeable folks than I on this thread, but I think your friend should ask about the intended CR for his 103 build.

Just finished a build almost identical to this, only thing that might be different is head work. My build is an 08 FLHT using AMS 105 components, static set at 10.2:1, running the 7H, the heads were ported, 1.9 intake, upgraded springs, and AMS ceramic coats the exhaust runner for heat reduction in the head. I had them add manual CR's to make sure all was well in our summer heat.
I think you will be happy with your results, so far I am very pleased with overall performance. I will say I have wondered if the 7H is really any more effective than the 6-6 in a similar build, but guess I will have to keep wondering.
