Default Engine oil in air filter

My 2005 FXDI has had the Stage 1 kit (air box modification, slip ons) for about 15,000 miles with no trouble. When I opened the air filter housing to clean it for the 20,000 mile service it was covered in oil, as was the mounting plate. I've heard that some oil will come through the breathers, but this seemed to be an excessive amount, and it hasn't done it before. Is this common? What could be causing it? Thank you in advance.

Who does your oil changes/adding oil when needed? Could it be that you overfilled it and it is blow by.

I second that. Putting too much oil in could be the cause. Hope it's that easy for ya.

I do the maintence on my bike, and check the oil about once a week. It stays within the acceptable range on the dipstick.

There have been threads on this topic before. Some that have the problem recommended leaving the engine oil 1/2 quart low and it stopped happening. Don't know that I'd recommend it, but you might want to do a search on the topic.

My 2005 FLHTI does the same thing- - I first found it was spittiing oil while up at elevation on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Lynchburg VA last month....I checked the oil, and have it in the mid range on the dipstick. - - Also if I run it fast (80mph) on the highway in 90 degree weather...Guess it depends on the circumstances, and yes, the filter was saturated - - I've had the same SE filter since 3k, now I have 14300K -- time to change it I guess....
