OMG I wonder what all they did? Sure sounds like it was more than just checking things over.

Boy I just don't understand how HD dealers get people to spend that wad of money for something they can do theirselves and from what I've heard the service checks don't always get fully done, in fact how would you know what they did?

Hi John,

Sometimes its easier just to take the bike in a leave it and give them the money rather than your time. As for checking their work, thats another story. I've wondered how many times they say something has been checked when it was only given a cursory nod.

I sometimes think that curiosity about whether or not the mechanic did something can flow over into other areas of life. I think that sometimes that is the way that life is heading. Saying one thing and doing another.

That's why it's very important to take it to a shop/tech you trust. I'm lucky, my dealer is awesome. They have (of coruse) factory trained techs, the salespeople are not pushy, their parts people know their stuff, their labour rates are good, and all around I never get that "am I getting taken?" feeling!

Cheers!

Clammy you're very lucky you have such a good dealer, wish they all were like that.

My local dealer is o-k to a degree, good parts/accessory dept., they usually have what you need and knowledge-able, don't know about the service dept., not one salesmen has never approached me to even see if I wanted to buy a bike or anything in the numerous times I have been there. The clothing dept. is helpful and will ask if you need help. If I had a mechanical problem I could'nt fix I know an old hand retired HD mechanic that I would trust much more, and would be a lot cheaper.

Bruce

If you go here and enter your VIN number and the 5000 mile service, it will tell you what needs to be done
