Sputtering and popping under load
I have a 1991 Heritage that made a poping noise and died on the freeway. It would not re-start after that. I took it in and the mechanic found that the ignition module was bad. It was replaced with a Dynatek 2000P and I was told that eveything was fine.
Now when it is cold I pull out the choke and the bike starts right up. After a bit I put the choke in and it idles fine. But when I accelerate from a light it sputters and pops, if I let off the throttle I can baby it up to speed.
After the bike runs for a little bit and gets warm the problem seems to go away.
I found that the switches on the new module were set completly wrong, they should have been all off but they were all on. Changed the switch settings and I thought I had fixed the problem but the engine must have still been warm.
I am mechanical enough to change parts or check things but I lack the experience to diagnose issues. Please help.
