RE: New pipes, poping, back fire on decel
That's the way I understand it too rickgmi. Free flowing intake and exhaust will lean it out. I've heard an explanation for the decel popping that makes sense to me, but I am not a subject matter expert. What I was told was that when you close the throttle at high RPM's leaving the clutch out, the engine keeps running at a fairly high RPM. Since throttle is closed, a small amount of fuel is introduced through the low-speed jet. There isn't enough fuel in the cylinder for complete combustion, so some gets fed into the ehuaust where it can ignite making the popping. I reduced significantly (but didn't completely eliminate) the amount of popping I get on decel by opening the idle mixture screw about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. I think I am running a little rich at idle due to this, but the bike seems to run very well and no fouling of plugs.
