Default SE's K&N air filter

I took the Springer in for the 500 mi. and when they were done with it they said replaced the air cleaner . They said that K&N had found a defect in some of there dry air cleaner elements and were replacing them this must have just came out becouse I just picked up the bike 3 weeks ago. So you guy's might want to find out about this.

JB,

Not being a smart butt, I did'nt know K&N made a dry air cleaner. All the ones I have seen or ever used are coated with K&Ns filter oil.

Thats what I thought to, then the Dealer told me otherwise. I don't think its been out very long its what came in the SE high flow air cleaner kit they put on the Springer I guess its marked right on the element do not oil.

I could be wrong but if you are talking about the filter with the blue gaskets they are not K&N. Harley replaced the K&N filters with those in late 04. And, I have heard of them tearing. I have the K&N with the black gaskets and you do oil it.

Are you serious??? I specifically asked for a K&N filter and I was led to believe that's what came with the SE kit... I'm going to have to check this out at the dealer. It's possible they are not aware of this.

Cheers!

Ok, I just looked through the SE catalogue, and for the kit I got, it says "new air cleaner element that does not need oiling", so I guess that means I didn't get the K&N I was expecting... [:@] Clammy = not happy about this!

Cheers!

Ya know come to think about it, I've seen K&N adv. that there filter make's about 2 more hp than the HD SE filter now, so there must have been a change in something.

True enough, but the kit was expensive, and the filter ain't cheap... so I'm going to have to pay for 2 filters... hmmmm................. this is annoying. Does anyone know the difference in performance between the filters?

Cheers!
