I agree with Hillside and PhilM either one of those cams will work great.

If I had to pick I would go with the TMAN 525. But thats my 2 cents

the t-man cam 525 will work great in that stock 96 ci bike..... then in the fututre when you are ready all ya gotta do is a set of heads and releife cut the pistons to get even more power.
so for now try the t-man 525 and i am sure you will like it.
also dont forget about a tune......

I just finished my cam upgrade, Andrews 26H cams and it runs great. It's not a hot rod, but pulls like a freight train from 2000 to 5000.I got just what I was looking for 81 HP and 92 TQ.

did you use tools to center your oil pump? Any trouble setting pushrods? did you change cam bearings? what tool did you use?

Notes from when I did mine:

To remove the inner cam bearings use a blind bearing puller. Install new bearings using the old cams and tap them in with a rubber mallet. Tap gently, they will slide in easy. There's a small lip on the inside of the case which you don't want to break off.

Oil Pump: btw - this is also how Fueling recommends installing their high performance pumps.

First the cam plate must be installed centered and torqued to spec. Put the plate in and install all the bolts hand tight then loosen 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Then lift rear of the bike up and put in 5th or 6th gear depending on year of bike, plugs removed. Rotate the rear wheel to turn motor while tightening the cam plate per the service manual. This centers the plate.

Now install all 4 oil pump bolts, very lightly seat them, then rotate the motor using the rear wheel, trans in 5th or 6th, spark plugs out, rotate the rear wheel 2 or 3 times, snug bolts a little more, turn the wheel 2 or 3 more times, tighten more, turn more, tighten more, until you get to final torque on the oil pump/cam plate.

Dont forget to use assy lube on bearings and pump.

I prefer using the stock push rods. More work although no second guessing about proper adjustments, loosening... and it costs less.

I used the alignment pins [from Georges Garage] and had my brother spin the tire while I used them. It was my first time in a HD engine and I didn't want to take any chances.
