When the low fuel light comes on I have about 1/2 gallon of gas left, but the gauge on the fairing shows I still have 1/4 tank, which would be a little over a gallon. Does anybody know a way to calibrate the gauge so that it's more accurate at low levels? (i don't really care about it being accurate with it's full....) I've gone through the service manual and I can't find where it's addressed.
My 06 RG gage is doing the same thing. Not quite as accurate as I would like but I go by the mileage and the light. It would be nice to have the gauge more accurate. It reads about the same as yours.
There is no calibration. if you have an FI, there is not a reserve. When the light comes on, find a gas station. Fuel level gauge works like your car, it has a float, arm and resistance windings, least resistance=full, most resistance=no fuel.
I fixed the problem by going into the tank and bending the float arm. Everything works like it should now. Seems like it would be a small matter for H-D to re-shape the arm before they install it.
